3/16 Special Event in the Heartland( Springfield MO) Train Show & Swap Meet
The Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) invites you to attend the Ozarks Model Railroad Association’s 35th Annual Model Train Show and Swap Meet in Springfield, MO, Saturday, March 16, from 9 to 3. The event will be held at Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road, in Springfield. Admission will be $7 per adult. Children under 12 years old will be admitted free with a paying adult. . Come to this show and meet with Mike Mottler and other LCCA volunteers. So bring your entire family and friends. This will be be a family friendly, fun Special Event.

The theme of the show is “Relive the Memories.” Parents and grandparents are invited to bring their children to the show to experience prototype and model railroading. Scheduled activities will include the opportunity to buy raffle tickets to win a signed and numbered print by Springfield’s nationally known watercolor artist John Fulton. Proceeds from the sale of this artwork and a portion of the registration will go to Crosslines, a charitable organization in Springfield.
Mike Mottler, Editor of The Lion Roars magazine will host a Lionel FasTrack Layout Building Contest for three age-related groups with prizes awarded to the winners of each division. Participating family teams and others will build FasTrack layouts of increasing complexity on the floor in a race against the clock. A championship round will include all division winners and runners-up. The winner of this contest will win the grand prize – a Lionel Train Set. The runners-up will earn a Lionel logo T-shirt.
Kids will have the opportunity to take controls of a virtual Frisco train running between Monett, MO, and Ft. Smith, AR. Upon completing their time they will acknowledged as a “Certified Locomotive Engineer.” Youngsters will also have the opportunity to run a Lionel train around the track while blowing the whistle and ringing the bell. Each participant will be certified as an “Official Whistle Blower.”
Older “kids”-- including adults who are kids at heart -- will have an opportunity to participate in a switching challenge hosted by the Train Town Club of Kansas City. Participants will receive a certificate of completion.
The Kiddie Train will be on hand for a few hours during the show to provide rides around the parking lot for adults and children.
Brad Slone of Dixon, MO, is scheduled to appear and offer a presentation about the Frisco Railroad’s Fort Leonard Wood Branch. Ron Williams, MMR, will present “Model Railroading 101,” a clinic for people new to or interested in learning more about the hobby.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and visit with manufacturers of model railroad products. Lunde Studios, of Eureka Springs, AR, will describe how they create and develop their products.
Owners of pre-1970 trains can bring their items to the show and meet Vernon Hart, MMR, of Springfield who will assess current market value. If the locomotive isn’t running, Harvey Owens, of Hollister, MO, will be on hand to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate of the repair cost.
More than 100 tables will be filled with railroad equipment of all scales as well as RR memorabilia. The rest of the space will be filled with operating model railroads from Bentonville, AR, Wichita, KS, Kansas City, MO, Omaha, NE, St. Louis, MO, as well as Branson and Springfield. Some of the displays have never been seen at previous train shows.
Throughout the day prototype train videos or slides will be shown on the huge Remington’s screen.
OMRC will offer many door prizes. At least five train sets will be given away and some lucky couple will win tickets to ride the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad.
The home layout tours will feature some new railroads that haven’t been seen during any of the previous shows. Host names and driving directions will be released at the show.
Remington’s will offer food consisting of a choice of hamburgers or hotdogs with chips and beverage for $2.50. A bottomless cup of coffee will be available all day for $1.
