Junior Members Attend 2012 LCCA Norfolk Convention
Junior Members (JM) and Parents, talk to each other about making your family vacation plans for this summer. Make plans to visit Norfolk VA and attend our 42nd Annual convention to be held 7/23 through 7-28, 2012 at the Marriott Waterside hotel. LCCA Junior members and their families who register for the convention will have the opportunity to enjoy many Free Activities. Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) Convention Manager "Captain" Bob Carter, Lou Caponi and the entire convention volunteer team have been working very hard for you. We are planning several Junior membership and family oriented, fun activities.
Our Junior members and their families will enjoy the beautiful Marriot property located downtown Norfolk near the waterfront of the Chesapeake Bay. There are all kinds of restaurants, museums and other local attractions within walking distance of our host hotel. Talk it over with your parents and ask them to make plans now for your family's summer vacation. There are plenty of train and non-train points of interest to see before and after our convention. Convention Co-managers Captain Bob Carter (formerly Cowboy Bob of the 2011 Dallas LCCA convention), Lou Caponi, Jerry Calkins and the entire volunteer team are planning numerous fun activities and tours that can be enjoyed by the entire family. One tour of interest may be Tour #5 Trains and Tapas at the Children's Museum. This is an evening tour and dinner event at the newly renovated and expanded Children's museum of Virginia. There are numerous hand-on interactive and educational activities. The toy train layout and the Lancaster Antique train collection are most impressive. There are two pop-up viewing locations in the middle of the layout that the kids can get access to by crawling through a cool tunnel. Due to the overwhelming success during last year's convention in Dallas TX, we are planning several FREE activities dedicated to our Junior Members and family members who attend our convention. Stay tuned to this page of our website for more frequent JM activity updates.
On Sunday, 7-22-12, 6:30 PM, President Dennis DeVito is planning to host a FREE Welcome Party. LCCA Convention Registrants and their families are welcome to attend and share in some complimentary light snacks. Meet with President, Dennis, Junior Membership coordinators Jenny Krause and Dominic Caponi, the BOD and the convention volunteer team to learn more about all of the activities and surprises planned for later in the week. There will be plenty of train and non-train related activities that should be of interest to the entire family scheduled throughout the week.
We are planning several Junior Member (JM) and family oriented FREE events such as the popular "Learn to Draw a Lionel Train" drawing class lead by LCCA member and Lionel Licensed artist Angela Trotta Thomas. We will have a FREE Boy Scout/Girl Scout Railroading Merit Badge Seminar Saturday, 7-28-12. Free Movie and Popcorn nights for the kids on Wednesday 7-25-12 evening 8-9:30 PM, Saturday morning, Member David Cohen of Virginia Beach VA will be conducting a hand-on clinic and demonstration about how to make inexpensive layout accessories that can be added to anyone's home layouts.
On Saturday, 7-28-12, the LCCA will be hosting a FREE toy train show and swap meet that will be open to the public. Kids of all ages are welcome. Come and experience Lionel's phenomenal 60' operating layout and display which will be open from Wednesday through Saturday. This spectacular layout was designed and built by TW Design of Dallas TX. Meet with representatives from Lionel and learn more about their upcoming products.
Kids, bring your own trains and run them on the Pittsburgh PA Hi-Railers modular layout. This layout will also be operational from Wednesday through Saturday. We are planning to unveil our first and newly designed LCCA Modular layout featuring Lionel's fast track. Come and experience the Magic of Lionel trains!
