DCNR #3 - Daily Convention News Report
The railroad-related tour on the third day of the convention was an excursion run aboard the Finger Lakes Scenic Railway. Today's reporter (Bill Kisewetter, RM 10607) was a passenger on this trip, along with his wife and young granddaughter.
We left the hotel aboard deluxe motor coaches at 8 a.m. and headed to Geneva, NY. Upon arrival, we boarded our train and traveled over former NYC tracks. Each coach was accompanied by a re-enactor in Civil War period garb and gear, and they presented "historic ambiance" from that era.
At a local park, we had lunch consisting of barbecued chicken, corn on the cob, and other picnic-type foods. After lunch we went to the nearby town of Shortsville for ice cream and cookies.
After a half-hour stop, we proceeded on to Canandaigua. A photo run-by was scheduled along with a ride around the lakes, but a severe storm hit the area and cancelled those best-laid plans. After a full-day outing of railroading in the region, we returned to our host hotel.
