Gallery: Layout - Mike McLintock
Mike McLintock's attic layout is the result of a dream come true as described in the December 2007 issue of LCCA's The Lion Roars magazine. Mike's story is a paradigm of many adult train hobbyists who as boys in the 1940s and 50s received Lionel trains as Christmas and birthday gifts. The toys became the reason to build a home layout in the basement, attic, or spare room with lots of help from dad and mom.
Mike McLintock's attic layout is an adult rendering of a train hobby interest begun in boyhood with support from his dad, a toy buyer for a large department store. Dad's ";job"; included buying Lionel trains for display and sale in the toy section of the store.
Mikes' current layout is built in the attic above the two-car garage of his home. It is the culmination of his lifetime dream to have a fully landscaped O-gauge layout. He can run three trains simultaneously on two levels. Some of the trains have a family legacy; they also ran on the basement layout in his childhood home during the early 1950s.
The Santa Fe 2-8-8-2 steam locomotive pulls a load across the Pratt Truss bridge of the outside loop. It was built with O72 curves to handle scale-size locomotives and cars, including the Lionel Acela.
Santa Fe F3 and a steam locomotive prepare to pass each other near the passenger station on the lower level of the layout.
