Canon Springs Siding - Lionel Western Pacific Zephyr pulls into Canon Springs siding along Clear Creek. Summit's Classic Car Rallye is taking place through town above. The Chicago Pacific Railway is an operator's layout using Lionel and MTH trains, Lionel tubular track, and Lionel, MTH, American Flyer accessories in a prototype railroad setting featuring long mainline runs, industrial sidings, yards with lots of switching with realistic railroad signaling, operation and scenery.
Canon Springs - LCCA D&RGW Prospector arrives while LCCA 6-18090 D&RGW Pacific with classic heavyweights waits to take on water at Canon Springs. Western road names operating between Chicago and the Pacific coast are run from which the layout gets its name. A variety of techniques were used to model scenery inspired by Colorado's prairies, mountains, and canyons.
Bridges Across Grand River - Four bridges span the Grand River which separates the mountain & canyon region from the main terminals and yards. The 400 sq. ft. layout is "U" shaped with an around the wall track plan folded into an "L" with center aisle access. The track plan is a single long continuous twice around multi-level loop with four passing sidings.
Grand River Crossing - A railfan's delight. Four trains cross Grand River at the same time. A 3% helical reverse loop between the upper and lower levels reverses direction of trains with a 10 inch change in elevation. A reverse cross-over near the main terminal reverses directions of the trains.
Town of Summit's Main Street - Lionel V&T Dry Gulch set emerges from tunnel below town of Summit while Summit's annual classic car parade & ralleye is taking place. The track plan has a passenger station/terminal and yard, a freight terminal, and yard, a diesel engine yard and a steam engine yard with turntable and roundhouse.
Coal Mine Loop - D&RGW freight with LCCA D&RGW woodside caboose trailing makes it's way through Coal MIne Loop's tunnels on the upper end of the helix reverse loop. The layout is signaled and interlocked at all sidings, junctions, crossovers, and yards which controls the operation of up to four trains traveling in any combination of directions along the mainline. Switching operations and movements in the yards and terminals can be performed independent of mainline operation.
Steam Engine Yard - Lionel Southern Pacific GS2 waits on the ready track at the steam engine yard. The Chicago Pacific Railway was on the home layout tour at the 1990 LCCA Convention in Ft. Collins, CO for which I was co-host. At that time the layout was operational, but only 33% sceniced. I started building it in 1975 & after nearly 39 years I have just completed the scenery & consider the layout “completed”.
Union Station Main Passenger Terminal - Classic heavyweights wait to depart Union Station at the main passenger terminal. Lionel factory in background is busy producing Lionel trains for LCCA members. Carl R. #482 is the proud owner of this fine layout he has shared here.
