Tour 16C - National Museum of the US Air Force
Tour 16C - National Museum of the US Air Force
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Board the bus from Indianapolis and take a glimpse back through history! Dayton, Ohio is the home to the National Museum of the US Air Force where military aviation history lives. The museum boasts more than 400 aerospace vehicles, many rare and one-of-a-kind, along with thousands of historical items.
Enjoy a tour of the Presidential Gallery, which houses a Boeing VC-137C known as SAM (Special Air Mission) 26000, the aircraft that served as Air Force One on the day of President John F. Kennedy's assassination. In addition to Air Force One, the presidential aircraft of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower is available for touring. Five smaller presidential planes and four other aircrafts are also on display in this gallery.
Following lunch, a tour of the museum will be given by one of the museum’s knowledgeable staff. The Heritage Tour begins in the Early Years era and continues chronologically through the Cold War era.
The museum’s Early Years Gallery conveys the magic and wonder of the formative days of military air power. The gallery’s aircraft collect, exhibits and artifacts combine to capture the spirit of imagination of that transformation era, chronicling the time from the Wright brothers and their contemporaries through World War I and the lad up to World War II.
While in the museum, you will be able to experience one of the museum’s flight simulators as either the pilot or the gunner. You will control the action as you climb aboard the interactive flight simulator where you will be able to try your skill at air-to-air combat in one of the museum’s nine simulators as either the pilot or the gunner.
